If you love caffeine and have been looking for healthier options to elevate your coffee-drinking experience, you may want to consider green tea coffee. This beverage is exactly what it sounds like – a green tea with coffee!
I’ve seen people in some of the online health groups raving about this combination but I must admit that I can’t imagine doctoring my green tea with coffee. However, some experts believe the combination can lead to many health benefits, including weight loss. Let’s find out more about this.
Is Green Tea Coffee Effective for Weight Loss?
Dr. Takafumi Kudo was the Japanese doctor behind the green tea coffee craze. He discovered that adding coffee to green tea can improve one’s chances of successfully losing weight, even without diet or exercise!
Dr Kudo lost weight himself by drinking the combination. Weighing over 200lbs several years ago he tested the method and lost more than 55 pounds (25 kilograms). This set a goodd example to his overweight patients who would not or could not diet to lose weight.

The method is straightforward – simply mix green tea and coffee in a 1:1 ratio. The idea is based on the notion that green tea and caffeine both contain ingredients to help a person lose weight.

Green tea contains theanine and catechins that can help reduce body fat. Meanwhile, caffeine is known for its slimming effects. In addition, theanine and caffeine are diuretic, which means they can help eliminate excess water from the body.
Dr. Takafumi also found that combining caffeine with catechin and chlorogenic acid can accelerate the body’s fat-burning process.
It’s also worth noting that the combination of green tea and coffee can create a good balance for their respective nutrients. According to Dr. Takafumi,
“Green tea catechins and polyphenol chlorogenic acid in coffee have the effect of burning fat. By mixing them, they increase mutual synergy and can prevent the intake of too much caffeine and other factors that cause adverse effects.”
For instance, 150 ml of coffee has about 60 to 90 mg of caffeine, while 150 ml of green tea contains 30 mg of caffeine. When combining 100 ml of each, the caffeine content will reduce to only 70 mg.
Blood sugar increases after we consume food. As it rises, insulin also increases, causing sugar to convert into fat.
Both chlorogenic acid and catechin can help to prevent blood sugar levels from increasing. In addition, a cup of green tea and coffee combination can help control blood sugar levels, which aids in weight loss.
So, aside from weight loss, green tea coffee is also believed to help regulate blood sugar levels. It can also improve energy and focus, strengthen immunity and digestive systems, and improve skin and heart health.
