Sugar cravings are common and this could be one of the challenges that you’ll face when going on a low carb diet. As you know, sugar is an unhealthy refined carbohydrate, which is definitely not ideal when you’re following a low carb diet.

The good news is that there are a handful of healthy snacks that you can actually eat whenever you find yourself craving for sugar although a low carb diet can help to keep your appetite under control.

So in the early stages of the diet if you get the urge to indulge in something sweet, here are 5 healthy snacks that you can eat to satisfy your cravings without ruining it.

#1. Frozen Grapes

Whenever you find yourself craving for a little bit of sweet, try the frozen grapes! When frozen, these fruits will become firm, yet they will still have that slushy consistency that makes them easy to chew. Just think of these snacks as mini ice pops that are diet-approved. Even though they are not low carb fruits you only really need a couple to satisfy that craving.

All you need is to store whole grapes in a container and leave to freeze for up to 5 hours. These frozen snacks are a great way to kill your midday sugar cravings.

#2. Celery and Almond Butter

If you need something sweet to snack on in between work in the office, why don’t you try celery and almond butter? In the video below Thomas DeLauer mentions using peanut butter but peanuts often contain mycotoxins so I don’t recommend eating it. This classic pairing of celery and almond butter is filled with lots of essential nutrients, such as magnesium, potassium, Vitamin E, and folate.

#3. Greek Yogurt

Greek yogurt is protein-rich, creamy, and a truly healthy way to snack whenever you feel the need to eat something sweet. Just make sure to choose those yogurts that don’t contain all those added sugars and unhealthy artificial flavors that can totally ruin your diet. And remember, just because a yogurt is fat-free does not necessarily mean it’s healthy.

When snacking on your Greek yogurt, resist the temptation to eat it with fruits that are loaded with sugar. To be safe, stick to the plain Greek yogurt, and if you need to add some toppings to it, choose a few berries,  chia seeds or flax seeds.

#4. DIY Trail Mix

Another healthy snack that could kill your sugar cravings is a DIY trail mix made up of mostly low carb nuts. This could consist of raw almonds, walnuts, hazelnuts, or pistachios, a few shavings of dark chocolate, and perhaps a little dried fruit. Remember that dried fruit is high in sugar and commercially prepared packs often contain added sugar. All you need is a few dried blueberries or cranberries with no added sugar. You could also include a few natural raisins.

#5. Sugar-free Instant Protein Pudding

Want to eat something sweet after a meal? Have a sugar-free instant protein pudding! To prepare, you need a couple of sugar-free Jell-O pudding mixes. Whip the pudding well and pour 2 to 3 scoops of whey protein powder that’s chocolate flavored. Mix well and enjoy!

I recommend Orgain grass-fed clean whey creamy chocolate fudge protein powder which is low net carbs, gluten free and non-GMO. Buy it here.
