The meaning of lazy keto would vary from one individual to another and it might be confusing for those who are new to the keto diet lifestyle. The increasing popularity of the ketogenic diet has also given rise to tons of misinformation from blogs to social media that are cashing in on the trend. It’s unfortunate that a lot of people think that the lazy keto is what a ketogenic diet is all about.

If you’re on a lazy keto diet, you’re not tightly tracking down calories (although many plans don’t rely on counting calories) or sticking into the proper protein and fat macros. Instead, you just merely focus on keeping your carbohydrate intake to less than 30 grams each day. But does it really work? Read on to find out.

What Is A Lazy Keto Diet?

As already mentioned, the term lazy keto has different meanings. Basically, if you’re on a lazy keto, you are not counting calories. You only count the carbs that you eat, which is usually staying below 20 grams of carbs every day. For others, it may include eating whatever they want for as long as the food fits within their daily carb count. This could include eating bad fats, sugars, chemical additives from packaged foods, and grain-based fillers.

The Ketogenic diet is definitely not about eating bad foods. And as you know, eating bad food can have negative effects on your body. Most of those who are new to keto are often tempted to do the lazy keto approach because it’s the easy way. Others would go on a low-carb diet disguised as keto. Keto is a very broad topic and it is very important that you educate yourself about the ketogenic diet before you decide to go for it.

Will You Lose Weight With a Lazy Keto?

Yes, you will most likely lose weight if you cut carbs out of your diet, most especially sugar-filled carbs. If you are going to eat fewer carbs than before, then you’re really going to see some positive changes in your body. Unfortunately, this may not work for the long term. The lazy keto may not also work for everyone.

You may lose weight if you go on a lazy keto approach, but the biggest downside is that you could hit a plateau. If you will not count calories, you could end up going beyond the limit, and as a result, you are not going to lose any weight.

People who are in the lazy keto often end up eating more heavy cream, less veggies and a lot of calorie-enriched foods. Yes, you will still go into ketosis, but you cannot lose weight in some cases.

Should You Switch to Strict Keto from Lazy Keto?

There’s nothing wrong if you opt for the lazy keto for as long as you are smart with your food choices and that it’s helping you with your goals of losing weight and improving your health. The ideal lazy keto diet is using ketogenic recipes but not really focusing on calorie count.

If you’re on the lazy keto, yet you’re stalled in your weight loss, then it may be time that you switch to the strict keto. You can at least try it for a week and see if you can remove some foods in your diet that contain a lot of calories. For instance, if you have been putting too much cream and butter in everything, it may be best to cut back on them.
